Socotra’s population is estimated to be 60,000 people, with the majority residing in the capital of Hadiboh and the western town of Qalansiya. Traditional sources of income, including livestock, fishing, date plantations, and basic household gardens, are still used. The most major exports from the island are fish and seafood, which are sold to a UAE fish factory on the island. People in Socotra are quite welcoming and hospitable; feel free and confident to accept their invitation when someone asks you to have tea in their home, whether you are in Bedouin communities or on the beach.
